Construction of Benchmark Model
  • The benchmark model should be constructed at NCREE according to the provided specifications .
  •   After the construction of the benchmark model is finished, it should be sent to the judge for quality certification.
  • The qualified benchmark model should be weighted. After the total mass M B of the qualified benchmark model (including the baseboard and the marker frame) is recorded, the team can continue to seismically upgrade the benchmark model.

Improvment of Benchmark Model
  •   In accordance with the reality, the qualified benchmark model can not be taking apart in the rest of time for any reason.
  • Each team is encouraged to use some unique material and components (prepared by the team itself) to strengthen or isolate the benchmark model.
  •  In a real building, you would need windows in every story. Therefore, for each story of the improved model, half the length of the outside perimeter (including the width of the pillars) must be left completely clear of any materials between the top of the floor and the bottom of the floor above. In short words, you got to leave as least 59.2 cm's opening clearance in each floor. If you have any inside components and elements (e.g. inside-wall and brace), you got to leave 5 cm's clearance for entrance. Figures 5, 6 and 7 are examples for this rule.
  •   The improved model should be connected to the center of the baseboard; each team can either use the hot-melted glue or his magic material (prepared by the team itself) in the connection.
  • The area with width of 22 mm around the edges of the baseboard should be left completely clear, such that the improved model system can be fixed onto the shaking-table by screws.
  • After construction of the upgraded model system is finished, it should be sent to the judge for quality certification again. After the total mass M T of the improved model system is weighted and recorded.
  • Before the shaking-table tests, the weight should be attached on the top of the three floor plates ( 1F , 2F and roof). The mass of the steel block attached on each floor is fixed to 10 kg , and the dimension of each steel block is 350 x 120 x 30 mm .
  • The steel blocks should be glued firmly in place, and they are not permitted to be tied by string ( Teams can only use the hot-melt glue provided by IDEERS to glued the steel block ) . Make the space for the blocks slightly larger than required (by about 2mm ) to make sure they can fit well.
