The goal of the postgraduate team is to retrofit the benchmark model.
The graduate team can use their great originality to add some energy-dissipation material to increase the performance of the building.
Then all models will be tested on the shaking-table at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), Taipei.
Your model must:
be made only from wood, paper, glue and string which NCREE provides.
have the same structure with the benchmark model.
be able to carry 10 kilograms for each story.
>> On the model-making day, you will have 6.5 hours (including a short break for lunch) to make your model.
>> For the competition, all models will be tested on a shaking-table with
different sized earthquakes.
>> The first earthquake will be very small. Then the size of the earthquakes will be increased gradually.
