The IDEERS Competition was initiated at the University of Bristol (UK) and has been held by NCREE and British Council Taipei annually in Taiwan since 2001. This seismic-resistant contest was only arranged for undergraduate students when it initiated in Taiwan. In 2002, IDEERS extended its spectrum by including the high school students’ participation. Foreign teams for both high school and undergraduate students from UK and Japan were invited to Taiwan to attend the IDEERS 2003. In addition to high school and undergraduates, the IDEERS 2004 Competition has broadened its diversity to include graduate students from Taiwan and all over the world, such as UK, Japan, Hong Kong and US. In addition, to promote international communication for the participants to exchange knowledge and experience of past and current research, a one-day IDEERS Conference was arranged for graduate students before the seismic-resistant contest since 2004.

Therefore, it is surely and widely admitted that IDEERS helps strengthen participants’ interaction and creativity by keeping pushing its boundary out to contain more and more students in different age, different cultural background, and different technical thinking.
