INTRODUCTION
After the 1999 Chi-Chi Earthquake, a substantial amount of valuable data on ground motions and induced disasters was collected. This data has played a crucial role in driving progress in various areas. The seismic design codes have been carefully reviewed and updated to incorporate the lessons learned from the earthquake. Furthermore, significant advancements have been made in areas such as structural retrofit, seismic isolation design, loss assessment, structural monitoring, and early warning technologies. These advancements have significantly enhanced our understanding of faults and earthquakes, and our ability to mitigate their impacts.

The National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) will convene the Anniversary Workshop in Commemoration of the 1999 Chi-Chi and 2022 Chihshang Earthquakes (ACCCS) in Taipei, Taiwan, from September 25-27, 2023. The ACCCS has invited world renowned professors and experts from the United States, Canada, Japan, Slovenia, and the Philippines, to deliver special lectures on engineering seismology, earthquake engineering, and earthquake-induced disaster mitigation. These esteemed professors and experts will share their knowledge, insights, and research findings, providing valuable perspectives on the latest advancements in the aforementioned fields. By bringing together a diverse group of professionals and researchers, the workshop aims to foster discussions on the latest advancements in earthquake engineering and disaster preparedness. The commemoration of past earthquakes serves as a reminder of the importance of continuous learning and preparedness for future events. Through collaborative efforts and the exchange of knowledge, the ACCCS seeks to enhance our understanding of earthquake-related phenomena, improve mitigation strategies, and develop more resilient communities. It is an opportunity for participants to share their research findings, engage in fruitful discussions, and work towards the common goal of minimizing the impact of earthquakes on society.

We are pleased to announce that the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) will also host the 2023 IDEERS (Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools) before the ACCCS workshop. This event will provide participants with an opportunity to witness and learn from simulated earthquake scenarios. Additionally, the Anniversary Workshop in Commemoration of the 1999 Chi-Chi and 2022 Chihshang Earthquakes will be conducted in conjunction with the Joint NRC-NSTC workshop on Earthquake Engineering Technologies. We are looking forward to welcoming attendees to this significant event and anticipate the valuable insights and outcomes that will arise from the workshop. By commemorating past earthquakes and addressing current challenges, we strive to better equip ourselves for future seismic events.

Note : All oral speakers will be invited by ACCCS office.
