PASHD (IDEERS)
In order to promote earthquake engineering and seismic protection education while encouraging students to participate in a creative scientific competition, the National Applied Research Laboratories' National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry of Education joined forces to hold the activity entitled, "Public Awareness on Seismic Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Preparedness ¡V Demonstration, Simulation and Experimentation" (PASHD-DSE) at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering this comingSeptember 28~30, 2007. Different teams composed of students from Chinese Taipei and foreign teams from APEC member economies will be invited to take part in this activity.
From the educational point of view, this project fulfills the concept of ¡§Learning from Doing¡¨ through a creative and innovative competition activity. It also considers the enhancement of seismic protection education to help participants to learn more about structural mechanics and earthquake engineering through the use of the computer program called GISA3D software developed by NCREE and through constructing models analyzed in the said program for the seismic tests challenge. By hosting this activity for 6 years, NCREE certainly keeps track on holding this annual event to help the students to know more about seismic protection and be updated of the most innovative technology in earthquake engineering in an interesting, creative, and meaningful way. This project also gives the member economies within APEC the opportunity to exchange ideas and interact to develop further alliances with other organizations through a vivid educational activity. Moreover, this activity aims not only to stimulate the development of progressive technology in earthquake engineering but also to benefit and nurture the young participants by providing them a practical platform in applying what they have learned.
